Students Build Solar-Powered Water Pump in Community Project
Final-year students from the Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department at KTVC have completed an impressive community project — the design and installation of a solar-powered water pump system for a neighbouring village that previously relied on a hand-operated borehole pump.
The project, supervised by the department's trainers, involved over 20 students who contributed their skills in photovoltaic systems, electrical wiring, plumbing, and project management.
"This is exactly what CBET training is about — applying classroom knowledge to solve real community problems," said the Head of Engineering Department.
The solar pump now provides clean water to approximately 200 households, reducing the burden particularly on women and children who walked long distances to fetch water. The project was partially funded by the CDF office and the college administration.
This initiative has been submitted for the National TVET Innovation Awards 2026 and the college is optimistic about recognition at the national level.
